1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto

The Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto, launched in 1966, would replace the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider and would be the last major member of the Giulia range (Series 105). Offering coachwork by Pininfarina, the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto would feature a 1,599cc twin-cam engine and four-wheel disc brakes. This model also carries the distinction of being Pininfarina’s last design, as he would sadly pass away just a month after the Duetto launch in March 1966. Pininfarina was also responsible for designing the car’s monocoque construction, which featured front and rear crumple zones. This was a relatively new technology at the time and gave the Spider Duetto added acclaim. One of the little known facts about the Duetto comes from its name. When the Spider Duetto was launched at the Geneva Motor show, it was unnamed. A write-in competition was held in Italy, which led to the “Duetto” name. It is estimated that approximately 6,324 of the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto models were produced, while 2,680 of the “Junior” Duetto models, launched in 1968, would be manufactured. If you’re the owner of a 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto or any Duetto model, the Alex Manos team would be delighted to learn more about your classic.

1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto Seller’s Guide

The 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto is known for having issues with rust, particularly in the rocker panels and in the areas surrounding the windshield. Educated buyers will want to thoroughly inspect your classic for rust. As such, you should always make accommodations for serious buyers to perform a third-party inspection with a qualified mechanic. Because it is common for buyers to come from across the country, it is also important to be prepared with recent photographs of the classic including any problem areas. Similarly, you should gather any and all documentation you have regarding the car’s ownership history, manufacturing history, maintenance and service reports, and any information regarding restoration. These documents can provide potential buyers with the confidence they need to move forward with the purchase or to choose your model over one that is similarly equipped.
