1962 AC Cobra

The AC Cobra (also known as the Shelby Cobra) was introduced in 1962 and was initially based on the previous AC Ace and Aceca models. Its inventor Carroll Shelby was impressed by the performance of the AC model during a Le Mans 24-hour race and requested that AC create a model apt for a V8 engine. Utilizing a V8 engine manufactured by Ford, the car was extremely light, weighing in at 2,100 lbs. The 260 hp engine was bolted to a four-speed transmission, making the car a joy to drive. With a top speed of 140 mph, 75 AC Cobra models were built between 1962 and 1963, prior to the engine receiving an upgrade to a Ford-made 270 hp V8 unit. Since its manufacture in the 1960s, the classically designed car has been very popular amongst enthusiasts and casual fans alike.
