Buying or Selling an Arnolt?
An industrialist from Chicago who started imported foreign cars into the U.S. during the 1950s, Stanley H. Arnolt began by bringing in hybrids that were sold as American cars but that also contained British engineering and Italian bodywork. The business began after a meeting with Bertone at the Turin Auto Show in 1952, at which point Arnolt began collaborating with the Italian builder. The business then brought assembly, sales, and distribution to the United States, with the first model being an Arnolt-MG, which as a four-seat model with an Italian build. Just over 100 units were sold over the course of a year – between 1953 and 1954 – with one-third of those being convertible models. In addition, Arnolt worked with Bertone on a Bentley body that held the chassis of a 1953 R Type Continental, and then again on a Bristol 404 series. Bertone also bodied three Arnolt Astons, but Aston Martin ultimately put a halt on this production – although four more were commissioned and bodied by Arnolt’s request.
