Selling A 1959 Aston Martin DB Mark III
Considered the first true postwar Aston Martin production car, the iconic Aston Martin DB2 would see several variants throughout production, which was started in May 1950. The most refined and ultimate variant was the Aston Martin DB Mark III, which would launch to the public in March 1956 as the successor to the DB2/4 Mk II. It would be produced until July 1959, when the Aston Martin DB4 succeeded it. As powerful as it was graceful, the DB Mark III would boast a Tadek Marek-redesigned Lagonda engine – the same engine that had been used throughout the DB2 lineup. Output was increased to 162hp, although an optional twin exhaust and several additional upgrades would give the car 178hp as a factory option. The addition of front disc brakes would also become standard for the DB Mark III, but the first 100 DB Mark III models would miss this upgrade. In later years, many of these 100 models were updated with the brakes. On the exterior, the most notable change was the revised grille opening, which was quite similar to the DB3S racecar of the era. A new instrument panel was also quite distinctive, and moved the gauges from the center of the dash to directly in front of the driver. In total, little more than 550 examples of the DB Mark III were produced, the majority of which were in Coupe form. A Drophead Coupe Convertible example was also offered.
