Selling A 1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT
The Aston Martin DB4 GT was launched to the public at the 1959 London Motor Show with much anticipation and success. The following year, the Zagato-designed edition of the DB4 GT would be released at the same show, and would give enthusiasts another reason to sign Aston Martin’s praises. The DB4 GT Zagato was in essence a 1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT that was lightened and boasted a new body by the Italian coachworks company, Zagato. Typically offered without bumpers, although some buyers requested them, the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato was quite raw. Also different was the construction of the car. Rolling chassis were sent to Italy for body installation, yet painting and final assembly were performed at Aston Martin’s new Newport Pagnell facility. The engine on the Zagato-designed DB4 GT also received some fine-tuning, and was given a new cylinder head with twin spark plugs and even higher compression. These revisions would push output to 314hp at 6000rppm. Weight saving practices would reduce the weight by 100 pounds, which gave the DB4 GT much success on the racetrack as well.
