Selling A 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II
From 1960 to 1961, Aston Martin would release the second variant in the long-running Aston Martin DB4 range – the Series II. While several small changes had happened throughout Series I (such as the addition of window frames on the side rear windows), the 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II would bring about the first significant changes to the line. Externally, a Series I DB4 and Series II DB4 can be differentiated by the Series II model’s adoption of opening rear quarter lights made with flat glass rather than curved. Perhaps most importantly, however, the 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II model’s front bonnet would now hinge from the front rather than the rear. This is a significant change that can be seen today, even in Aston Martin’s most modern models. Upgraded brake calipers would also happen during Series II production. For additional power and engine cooling, a few changes were made under the hood as well. First, the sump was enlarged and the oil pump was ungraded. An oil cooler was also available as a factory option starting with Series II, and can be found by looking under the front bumper for an air intake scoop. Many of the 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II models that did not purchase the oil cooler at the time of production would be eventually updated down the line to feature this important option.
