The long awaited Tadek-Marek V8 engine was finally made available for the DBS, after being announced on September 27, 1969. The new four-seat two-door grand touring Aston Martin DBS V8 was capable of 160mph and although the output wasn’t officially released, the horsepower was estimated between 315 and 320hp, compared to 282hp for the previous 6-cylinder engine. Two different transmission systems were offered: a ZF manual 5-speed unit and a Chrysler Toqueflite auto unit. With visual cues such as the squared off front grille and four headlights, the design of the 1969 Aston Martin V8 is very close to the DBS. The main differences being the wider front air dam and the 15’’ GKN light alloy wheels, designed specially to replace the wire wheels typically used on Aston Martin’s previous models. The V8 was also the first Aston Martin vehicle to come with the new ventilated brake discs system. The 1969 Aston Martin V8 was a very advanced machine at the time and is now very well appreciated in the classic car enthusiast community.
