Aston Martin DB6

A popular Grand Touring car produced between September 1965 and January 1971, the Aston Martin DB6 is an icon in the company’s model history. The first version of the DB6 was called the Mk I and was released at the London Motor Show in October 1965. In 1971, the DB6 Mk I was replaced by the DB6 Mk II model, which ran until the DB6’s production ended in favor of the DBS in 1971. The Aston Martin DB6 offers more inside room and improved aerodynamics thanks to the fastback styling, in comparison to the previous models (Aston Martin DB4 and DB5). These improvements were the result of several changes. One of the main differences was the abandon of the superleggera construction technique, which was used on the previous models. The DB6 would use a more standard chassis style, employing folding sheet metal frames. This new design gave way to a longer wheelbase and an extended rear, beautifully finished with the famous Kammback tail. The new construction added 17 pounds of weight over the DB5 but also contributed to the improvement of high-speed stability of the new DB6.

Aston Martin DB6 Seller’s Guide

The Aston Martin DB6 was equipped with standard power steering, flared wheel arches and an improved clutch. Different options were available throughout the production, including a Vantage version. The Vantage engine raised the horsepower from 282 to a significant 325, enabling the DB6 to reach an average top speed of 150 to 155 mph. In 1966, Aston Martin launched the Volante Convertible version of the DB6. Although the very first models were based on the DB5 chassis, the Volante’s body style comes from the DB6. In 1967, the company released a new model called the DBS, which featured a more modern design and was very fashionable at the time.
