Selling a 1956 Austin-Healey 100-4
From its launch in 1953 to model-year 1955, the original design of the Austin-Healey 100-4 was virtually unchanged. During the 1955 and 1956 model-years however, some slight changes were introduced, which coincided with the release of the BN2 series. The 1956 Austin-Healey 100-4 was now equipped with a larger carburetor, and two additional versions were now released to the public. Buyers could now purchase the 100S and the 100M. Built for racing and offering an aluminum body, the BN2 four-speed transmission without the overdrive, a 132 horsepower version of the BN2 engine, and four-wheel disk brakes, the Austin-Healey 100S was quite a head-turner. In fact, only 50 of these 100S models were ever produced. Similarly, the 100M had a 100 horsepower version of the engine and several chassis modifications. Only 1,150 of the Austin-Healey 100M models were built. If you are looking to sell either of these Austin-Healey models, because of their exclusivity, they are considered more valuable than the base model 1956 100-4.
1956 Austin-Healey 100-4 Seller’s Guide
One of the pesky problems with the 1956 Austin-Healey 100-4 and the other early Big Healey models is the low-clearance exhaust systems. Because there is very little ground clearance, these exhausts could get damaged with the slightest bump or debris in the road. Potential buyers looking at your 1956 100-4 will likely have questions regarding the exhaust and may want to put the car up on a lift to see underneath. If you’ve owned your Healey for some time, you may also know that oil leaks can be problematic. Educated buyers may ask you questions about the engine and whether or not it has been rebuilt. Any documentation you can provide regarding maintenance and restoration will put your potential buyers at ease. Seller’s Tips like these come from years of experience buying and selling classic cars of all makes and models. The team at Alex Manos, having helped countless clients with the sale of their Austin-Healey models, would be delighted to speak with you and to learn more about your classic.
