Buying or Selling a 1952 Bentley R Type Continental Fixed Head Coupé?
Fastest four-seater when introduced, the 1952 Bentley R Type Continental fixed head coupé was a high-performance version of the R Type. The model prototype was developed by a team of engineers at Rolls-Royce led by Rolls-Royce Chief Project Engineer, as well as designers from H.J. Mulliner & Co. Instead of the usual ash-framed bodies, the British coachbuilder had developed a body construction system using metal throughout, therefore taking some weight off the final product. The aerodynamics of the R Type Continental was ahead of the competition and the body was finely tuned using a wind tunnel. The same F-head, 6-cylinder, 4.5-liter engine than the R Type was featured on the Continental, but with different carburetion, induction and exhaust.
1952 Bentley R Type Continental Fixed Head Coupé Seller’s Guide
The Bentley R Type Continental was mainly made for the domestic market—although its “Continental” designation suggests that the model would be sold internationally—and most of the 207 units built were right hand drive. 43 left hand drives cars are reported however, and some very well maintained examples are currently in the U.S. When looking to sell a 1952 Bentley R Type Continental fixed head coupé, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Alex Manos and his team.
