About Hooper and Co.

 

In activity from 1805 to 1959, Hooper and Co. was a British coachbuilder of horse-drawn, then motor-powered carriages. Founded as Adams and Hooper, the company is known to have supplied King William IV, Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. Hooper specialized in luxurious bodies and high-end designs, and the models were usually amongst the most expensive designs on the market. Elegance and safety were the main focus, rather than sportiness. During World War I, Hooper and Co. turned to aircraft manufacture and then returned to coach building. The company was very successful after the war and they built a second factory during the Great Depression. 400 bodies were made in 1936, at the peak of their activity. In 1938, Hooper acquired Barker who was then acquired by Daimler in 1940, becoming part of the BSA group. Rolls-Royce and Bentley were the main suppliers of rolling chassis when Daimler production decreased. Hooper became a Rolls-Royce distributor in 1970.
