Selling a 1957 BMW 600
The 1957 BMW 600 was a creative, fun little car- sometimes called a bubble bus due to its capacity, which allowed up to four passengers to travel comfortably. The first bid of this lovable play on the classic bubble car sold fairly well for its first year of production, though not as well as might have been hoped. It was somewhat more expensive than its competitor in the Volkswagen Beetle, and many cite this as why it wasn’t as successful as it could have been. However, from a company balancing on the very edge of bankruptcy it was an admirable effort. The rear suspension system was so innovative that it was used on all BMW vehicles until the 1990s. There was even an option for a semi-automatic transmission, even though the four-speed manual was still standard. Fuel-efficient and space efficient, it was an interesting footnote for BMW.
1957 BMW 600 Seller’s Guide
The 1957 BMW 600 did well in terms of production numbers and sales, something that can’t be claimed of the following production years, and as such, are likely more numerous than those produced in subsequent years. While an unknown number of examples have been lost to the ravages of nature and time, the BMW 600 is not quite exceptionally rare- however, examples which retain a functional semi-automatic transmission as opposed to the standard four-speed manual are quite a bit more value, simply through the idea that if a partially automatic transmission has survived, not only is it a rarer version of the car, it’s more likely to be in better shape, considering that a semi-automatic transmission was a quite complicated piece of machinery as compared to the standard in that time period.
