Selling a 1962 BMW 3200 CS

1962 BMW 3200 CS

First available in February 1962 after appearing in the 1961 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 1962 BMW 3200 CS marked the beginning of the end of an era for BMW. Following the revitalization of BMW’s car producing capabilities—spurred by the wild popularity of the 700—the 3200 CS was the last big-engine luxury car BMW made in the postwar climate. In 1962, the BMW 3200 CS became the first car in BMW history to make use of the now-iconic Hofmeister Kink. This kink has become a recognizable feature in the design of nearly all BMWs since then. The Hofmeister Kink is a distinguished bend in the pillar between the back side windows and the rear-view window. On some models, the kink bears the BMW insignia, bearing witness to just how iconic the kink has become. In spite of featuring new design elements, the 3200 was the last car to feature many systems that have been outdated by modern technological development and improvement, such as pushrod-operated engine valves and a solid rear axle. The 3200 CS is considered a successor to the BMW 503.
