Selling a 1964 BMW 1600

1964 BMW 1600

The 1964 BMW 1600, the replacement for the popular 1500 and an updated version of the same, was one of the shorter-lived members of the New Class family. This mid-sized luxury sedan derived its name from the 1600cc four-cylinder engine that spurred its rear wheels. Performance-wise this engine was highly praised over the 1500s, pioneering in both output and fuel economy and signaling a positive course in design philosophy. Dependable and sturdy, with features such as great visibility, thin columns, a tall greenhouse, and a suitably large trunk—it truly represented BMW’s metamorphosis. Though to most consumers the 1600 was considered quite fashionable, and while it didn’t have too long of production run, its direct successor- the 1602 or 1600-2 did, lasting well into 1975.

1964 BMW 1600 Seller’s Guide

Being an accessory to the New Class success, the 1964 BMW 1600 is an excellent example of a truly classic car. It’s not super numerous, or very widely available, but it isn’t prohibitively or insanely rare, either, making it a wonderful entry into the market for those who may be inexperienced or only moderately experienced in the classic car markets! However, a 1600 may be difficult to distinguish from some of the other New Class models, given that most of them share the same exterior design, and the majority of the differences lie underneath the hood of the car. New Class cars were usually only differentiated by the engine size and configuration, with larger numbers meaning larger engine volume, such as in the case of the 1600 having a 1600cc engine. The distinction between models is extremely important in terms of value, mainly because there are more of some New Class models, and less of others. There are definitely less 1600s in the world, for instance.

For more information concerning the 1600, and indeed, the New Class in general, you should give Alex Manos a quick phone call. As an expert in classic cars, he can provide some very interesting history on your 1600- and perhaps offer to buy it, as well.

Few are better suited to providing selling advice to anyone who may ask for it, and fewer still will make an exhaustive evaluation of the car and offer you that same exact number in cold, hard cash. Call Alex Manos today!
