Selling a 1967 BMW 1800

1967 BMW 1800

In the late-1960s, the dark days of the preceding decade were but a distant memory for BMW. Promising great things with its 1961 New Class preview, the German carmaker had routinely outdone itself year after year. The 1967 BMW 1800 was released to the buying public during a period in which the 1800 series was declining in production and sales, though these numbers were still quite respectable. Of course, the zenith year of 1965 (during which time over 38,000 units of the model were produced) had come to pass, but the 1967 BMW 1800 saw nearly 9,000 units roll off the lines. Compare that number to the total 23,554 units produced of the 1500 series during its entire lifespan, and the 1967 BMW 1800 actually enjoyed a healthy manufacturing presence.

As part of the larger Bayerische Motoren Werke story, the 1967 BMW 1800 was a solid entry commercially and carried on in typical fashion on the design and engineering front. Where the 1500 had fallen a few hooves short muscle wise, the 1800 series had provided lead-footers with a just a bit more horsepower, a missing element to which consumers responded overwhelmingly well from 1964 onward. The M10 SOHC motor was still at work in the 1800, with its 1.8-liter capacity yielding an energizing 90 horses of power. Paired with a practical sedan design and a signature set of cosmetic characteristics, the 4-speed manual 1800 was a testament to BMW’s sustained marketplace viability. The vehicle enjoys decent sales attractiveness even now, which is to say that it is always a seller’s market when the New Class BMW’s are in play.
