It was released alongside the 2000CS which had twin carburetors, the single-carburetor model being more often built with an automatic transmission in mind, with 3,249 built as automatics and only 443 built with a manual transmission. Aside from the front, the designs were primarily based off of the 3200 CS, which was a heavy inspiration for the New Class as a whole.
