While the third-generation Jaguar XK150 was not the longest lived of the XK sports car line, it would become one of the most profitable for the brand. Accounting for more than 52 percent of Jaguar sales at the time, the XK150 launched in 1957 with the Drophead Coupe and Fixed Head Coupe, would release a Roadster XK150 model in 1958, and would end production with all three body styles running side-by-side in the 1961 model-year. If you’re the owner of a 1960 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe, you own one of only 2,672 XK150 DHC models made during this era of production. The Fixed Head Coupes were the most popular, with approximately 4,445 units being released, while the Roadsters saw 2,265 come to market. Engine options would also change in 1960, with the release of the 3.8L engine. In standard tune, drivers would receive 220hp and in the “S” form, more than 265hp. This was quite the power for a 1960’s sports car.

1960 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe Seller’s Guide

Many classic car collectors are particularly interested in the 1960 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe (and other model-year DHC’s) because it was a true convertible. Where the Roadster provided the open-air driving experience of a convertible, it lacked the protection from the elements that makes for a more comfortable and enjoyable ride. The Drophead Coupe, with its true convertible top, would give owners options they previously did not have. While those looking for a primitive racecar experience often prefer the Roadster, those looking for an enjoyable convertible that can go from driving top-down to top-up in mere minutes, the Drophead Coupe was the winner.
