1971 Jaguar XKE Convertible

The 1971 Jaguar XKE Convertible (and its stablemates) would mark the end of Jaguar XKE Series II production and the start of Series III. During this release, Jaguar would offer a 5.3L twelve-cylinder engine to replace the 4.2L for the first time. This year would also mark the end of the short wheelbase chassis that had been used for the Fixed Head Coupe. Now, the lineup would include only the XKE Convertible (also known as the Open Two Seater) and the XKE Fixed Head Coupe 2+2 on the long, 2+2 wheelbase. In total, 20 Series II Convertibles and 313 Series III Convertibles would be sold during this model-year. The large cross-slatted front grille can easily distinguish the Series III 1971 Jaguar XKE Convertible models, as well as the new more flared wheel arches. Jaguar also boasted the new V-12 engine with a badge on the rear of the car. There were also a few additional factory options that were available on the 1971 Jaguar XKE Convertible that can add value to your classic today. These include: an automatic transmission, leather interior, and air conditioning to name just a few.

1971 Jaguar XKE Convertible Seller’s Guide

The 1971 Jaguar XKE Convertible has an interesting appeal to collectors and enthusiasts in today’s market, as Ferrari and Lamborghini were only offering the V-12 engine at the time. By offering this powerful upgrade, Jaguar would effectively surpass rivals like the Chevy Corvette and the Porsche 911. While the Series I Jaguar XKE models generally are considered the most valuable, you’ll find a wealth of buyers that are interested in owning this piece of Jaguar history.
