1949 Porsche 356

Introduced in 1948, the Porsche 356 was designed by Ferry Porsche, son of Ferdinand Porsche, because he wanted to build a car that he would like himself. He started working with employees to build a car based on the Volkswagen Beetle (which his father had developed), and for much of the first years, these cars relied heavily on Volkswagen parts. These cars also have a deep and successful racing history. In fact, the very first Porsche 356 with chassis number 356.001 was only a few weeks old when it won first in class at the Innsbruck City Race. Iconic not only for its beautiful and elegant styling, but also for its racing capabilities, the 1949 Porsche 356, and other model-years, would go on to become one of the most recognized Porsche cars in the world. Limited supply and high demand makes for a hot seller’s market, as very few of these early 356’s with aluminum bodies were ever produced and even fewer remain today.
