Buying or Selling a 1972 De Tomaso Pantera?

1972 De Tomaso Pantera
1972 De Tomaso Pantera

The Pantera model was introduced by De Tomaso in 1970 at the New York Auto Show and production started in 1971. Ghia was commissioned to style the model while the body was built by Vignale in Turin and the car was assembled at the De Tomaso factory in Modena. Ford was handling imports for the American market, under the Lincoln Mercury brand. The first examples of De Tomaso Pantera built in 1971 weren’t up to the quality standards of Ford and many upgrades were made on 1972 models. A new engine was fitted on the new model along with anti-rust protection and crash security equipment such as the recognizable large black bumpers. A 248-hp Cleveland Ford engine powered the car and offered plenty of thrills. Ford sold 5,500 examples of the Tomaso Pantera in the US until 1975 and additional examples were imported in the 1980s directly from the factory.
