Selling A Ferrari 365 GT4
The Ferrari 365 GT4 was the first model of a series of front-engine V12 2+2 Grand Tourers made by Ferrari between 1972 and 1989, and was produced in 524 examples between 1972 and 1976. The Ferrari 365 GT4 was launched to replace the Ferrari 365 GTC/4 and was followed by the Ferrari 400 in 1976, then the Ferrari 412 in 1979. The three cars were very similar, using the same body, while the chassis and engine evolved over time. Ferrari numeric names refer to the engines’ single cylinder displacement expressed in cubic centimeters. As the displacement changed in the evolution of this series, so did the name to reflect the progress. Most of the mechanicals were carried over from the Ferrari 365 GTC/4, including the four overhead camshafts (GT4). The V12 produced 320hp at 6,200 rpm and featured six side-draft Weber carburetors. The power was transmitted to the wheels by a 5-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox with a single-plate clutch.
Ferrari 365 GT4 Seller’s Guide
Designed by Pininfarina, the body of the Ferrari 365 GT4 is very interesting, departing from its predecessor with a three-box design. The Ferrari GT4 was the second Ferrari to feature a swage line design dividing the body into an upper and lower half. The iconic Borrani wire wheels were offered at extra cost, while standard alloy wheels were mounted on Rudge knock-off hubs. Air conditioning, leather upholstery and electric windows came standard for more comfort, making the car particularly enjoyable on long-distance family trips, with its 2+2 seat configuration. The cabin had a harmonious look and a beautiful five-spoke steering wheel complimented the elegant dashboard.

Although the Ferrari 365 was designed with an automatic transmission and fitted to US emissions compliance, no version of this Grand Tourer was officially imported to the US to avoid the cost of federalizing. However, a grey market was set up and many 365 GT4 were actually shipped over the Atlantic. If you are the current owner of a Ferrari 365 GT4, the Alex Manos team would love to hear all about it. The team has years of experience dealing with classic Ferraris and is always looking to buy classics of all makes, models and conditions.
