Introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1976, the Lamborghini Silhouette P300 was based on the previous Lamborghini Urraco P300. The model was produced from 1976 to 1979 in only 53 models—on top of the two prototypes used for development. The Jalpa model that was heavily inspired by its predecessor replaced the Silhouette. The name Silhouette refers to the Group 5, an FIA motor racing classification for liberal silhouette formula based on homologated production vehicles. Intended mainly for the US market, the Lamborghini Silhouette P300 was designed by Bertone and equipped with reinforced bumpers and a catalytic exhaust. The Silhouette is the first Lamborghini to come with a removable targa top that could be stored behind the seats. A 3-liter V8 engine powered the Lamborghini Silhouette P300 and produced an output of 250 hp, enabling a top speed recorded at 162 mph.
