Buying or Selling a Maserati Quattroporte I?
Introduced in 1963, the first generation of Maserati Quattroporte opened the way to a long series of performance sedans. Commonly abbreviated to QP, Quattroporte means four-door in Italian. Four-door, four-seat supercars were quite rare in the early 1960s, and still are nowadays. Maserati took advantage of this niche market and the QP was very well received. Pietro Frua was responsible for the design of the Maserati Quattroporte and gave the car a clever mix of curvy lines and angular shapes. The most characteristic design cues were the front twin rectangular headlamps and the large trident logo proudly decorating the wide grille. All wheels were equipped with disk brakes and first models featured a De Dion rear suspension, later replaced by a more simple leaf springs arrangement. The Maserati Quattroporte I was powered by a four-cam V8 engine with a capacity of 4.2 liters for the first units and was later upgraded to a 4.7-liter unit.
