Considered the top-of-the-line Mercedes Benz during the 1950’s, the 1952 Mercedes Benz 300S (and other year models) was the ultimate luxury car of the era. Relying heavily on the technology of the Type 300 Adenauer models, the styling of these Mercedes 300S models was quite different. The 1952 Mercedes S came either as a 2+2 fixed roof coupe, a cabriolet with functional landau bars, or as a roadster with a top that completely disappeared when folded. First introduced at the 1951 Paris Auto Show, buyers then and now found the exceptional craftsmanship, visual elegance, and prestige to be most desirable. With these characteristics came a greater price tag; the W188 was more than 50 percent higher in price than its W186 contemporary. This did not deter buyers, however. This limited production saw a total of 216 coupes, 203 cabriolets and 141 roadsters come off the factory floor from July 1952 to August 1955.
