These new models, designated by Mercedes as the W108 and W109, would offer a powerful 2.5L engine capable of producing more than 150 horsepower and a significant increase in top speed. Aesthetically, two of the only visible changes would be the new 14-inch rims and new hubcaps with beauty rings. These changes to the rims and hubcaps were implemented to accommodate for the larger disc brakes and new rear axle. In total, there were 5,259 Mercedes Benz 250SE Coupes manufactured during the production run. The Cabriolet models are perhaps the most desired today, as only 854 of those models would come off the production line during the same time.
