Heir to the heavenly Silver Dawn, the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud came out in 1955 as its predecessor was being phased out. Its greatest improvement was its 4000 RPM six-cylinder engine with a top speed of 102 mph, a fairly impressive achievement for its size. An advanced air induction system was added in 1956 alongside power steering and an air conditioning unit. An even larger wheelbase would be made optional in 1957 to further enhance the spacious, luxury feel. The frame continued on the tradition of separation from a coach-built body. However, all but a few Silver Clouds were built with a rounded, steel figure compared to the sharper angles of earlier Rolls Royce. The specifics were dependent on individual request that could veer anywhere from breezy convertibles to fortress-like limousines, but the standard image of the Silver Cloud is as a four-door sedan.
