Straight from their historic factory in Crewe, England the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn would mostly be produced as a 4-door saloon complete with body and chassis as one entity. This was a major change in step inspired by the Bentley Mk.VI and Bentley R type series and would be mostly identical appearance-wise besides a few different body panels. Only a limited number were coach built in the usual fashion. It came fitted with an ever-reliable inline six-cylinder engine that was enlarged in 1951 for added power. From 1949 to early 1952 it would only be produced with a manual transmission, but an automatic option would be added in late 1952. In all, the Silver Dawn was a step towards modernity for Rolls Royce but is more remarkable for what it began than what it was.
