1956 Triumph TR3

The Triumph TR3 was the popular successor to the Triumph TR2 and was produced from 1955 to 1957. The Triumph TR3 was built by the Standard Motor Company and featured an upgraded engine with larger-choke SU carburetors and 5 additional horsepower. Cylinder heads changed twice during the first year of production. After the first 3,300 units, a new “high-port” design was introduced with another additional 5 hp. The 1956 Triumph TR3 main design cues were the egg-crate grille with badges and the new model number, as well as the additional third seat available on option. In the autumn of 1956, the Triumph TR3 became the first series-built British car with standard disc brakes in the front. The rear featured modified rear drums attached to a new axle. The popularity of the car increased and sales went up. A GT kit was introduced with the Triumph TR3, including an optional lift-off hardtop and exterior door handles. A total of 4,726 units Triumph TR3 were built in 1956.
