The story goes something like this: the inventor, Carroll Shelby asked AC to produce a car that could fit a V8 engine. AC agreed, and Shelby ultimately ended up partnering with Ford for the engine (a V8). Initially, the AC Cobra was fitted with a small-block 4.2-liter that was tuned specifically for high-performance. Subsequent models would end up utilizing a 4.7-liter version of the Ford engine mentioned above. Additionally, the AC Cobra featured a classic aluminum roadster and a tube space frame, which when considered in conjunction with the light engine weighed in at a total of 2,100 lbs. A strong rear differential was also introduced to handle the increased power. In 1962, rack and pinion and steering were introduced. In combination, these elements created a true masterpiece that has been praised over the years for its timeless elegance and refinement.
