Buying or Selling a 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi?
The Ferrari 308 GTSi was the second generation of Ferrari 308 GTS models. Released in 1977, the first examples were carbureted until 1980. In order to comply with US regulations on gas emissions, Ferrari had to let go of the Weber carburetors in favor of a new Bosch fuel-injection system. The new models were smoother than the aggressive carbureted cars, but 40 hp less powerful. The 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi models were still quite popular thanks to their beautiful design – elegantly penned by Pininfarina and resembling the previous Dino models. This 2-seat sports car was one of the iconic Ferraris of the mid 1970s to mid 1980s, especially for the convertible models. In fact, more GTS than GTB were made, and the GTS are now very desirable collector vehicles.
1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi Seller’s Guide
Although 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi models are quite rare and desirable classics, the selling process won’t necessarily be quick and easy. In order to help the transaction be as smooth as possible, the Alex Manos team recommends the following seller’s tips. First, because many buyers will start their research on the Internet, a good set of professional pictures will attract more prospects. Second, be sure to put together a folder with all the documentation available on the example, including the Certificate of Authenticity that most buyers will request to see, maintenance and repair reports, or anything backing up the car’s history of ownership. Finally, you should always present the car in the best possible shape, which can be achieved by having your trusted Ferrari technician take a look at it to suggest any simple fixes that may increase the value.
