The Triumph TR3 was launched in 1955, and succeeded to the TR2 model. The TR3 was produced in 13,377 examples until summer 1957, when it was replaced by the Triumph TR4. Most of the examples of Triumph TR3 were sent to the US, were the model was particularly popular. Standard Motor Company in the UK manufactured the car. The model was initially a two-seater convertible but a hardtop and a third seat were made available on option. Thanks to bigger carburetors, the inline four-cylinder engine could produce 95 hp and the car would reach 60 mph from still in less than 10.8 seconds. The unit was bolted to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive and top speed was recorded over 105 mph. Disc brakes were available as an option. Walter Belgrove penned the Triumph TR3 and the design can be distinguished from the TR2 by a slightly modified grille using aluminum and chrome.
