What had started out as a 1499 cc engine with an adequate 75-80 horsepower, was reconfigured to accommodate a bit more displacement and an additional 10 horses. Coupled with the intuitive structural/performance upgrades that BMW implemented throughout the 1960s, that extra motor strength graduated the 1800 to a level more on par with the BMW known to contemporary buyers. For that reason, sellers exploring the possibility of putting their own 1966 BMW 1800 on the open market will have much in the way of performance to emphasize.
