First introduced in 1949, the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn was a full-sized luxury vehicle produced through 1955. The 1951 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn was the third iteration and was also the first model year to feature the 4.6 liter engine upgrade, as the first two years offered a 4.3 liter version. The brainchild of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, the Silver Dawn was designed with performance and precision in mind. Although the Rolls Royce brand is today known for its prestige and luxury, the founders focused their efforts on developing a reputation of unparalleled performance when the officially joined forces in 1906.

This full-sized four-door saloon boasted a rear-wheel drive, front engine placement design, with a transmission that was managed either by column or floor shifting depending on the model. And, while many units were topped with factory-build bodies, there were many esteemed coachbuilders who would work with the brand —including Park Ward, Pininfarina, and H.J. Mulliner. Limousine and drop head coupe variants would also be available under the Silver Dawn name.
